About the Author
J. Peter Burkholder is Distinguished Professor of Musicology at Indiana University. He has written and edited four books on Charles Ives, as well as numerous articles on topics spanning from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century for The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Journal of Musicology, Musical Quarterly, 19th-Century Music, Music Theory Spectrum, and other journals. His writings have received awards from the American Musicological Society, the Society for American Music, and ASCAP.Claude V. Among his many publications are a history of Baroque music and a collection of scholarly essays on Italian Renaissance music.

This book was required for my Music History course, even though it was a required textbook I have to say the wealth of knowledge as well as the incredible number of full pieces of music this book has is staggering. I would recommend this anthology for any serious musician to have as reference.
A must for music classes (or interesting people who read this stuff for fun). Targets the influential composers from the most recognizable era in music history—bits of Baroque, classical, romantic. Author has a verbose love for Beethoven.Keep in mind that you can buy the CDs or go to the norton website to get them online with the textbook.
