Every so often, I crave Chinese food. PIckin's are slim, where I live, when it comes to a clean and good Chinese restaurant. This cookbook, at $2.99 is a bargain. You just can't go wrong. I like that the majority of the ingredients are already in my pantry. Thanks to Jaden, I bought a Wok when I bought her first book. I can't wait to fire my Wok up to make several of these recipes. I don't make Baby Bok Choy often, and I should. It's a healthy alternative that I know my family will love. Jaden shows how to prepare and cook this vegetable.I adore Won Ton soup, and I really liked the step-by-step photos on how to make your own. I can do this! There's a cool explanation on how to cook wontons, the Chinese way. Super clever! She even tells you how to convert low-sodium chicken stock into a Chinese soup broth. So cool!The Shrimp with Snow Peas will be my first recipe I'll be making. Just by reading the ingredients (garlic, ginger and green onion...the Chinese trinity) I know this is going to be flavorful. This dish is finished off with a fresh carrot, bell pepper and snow peas. They are gorgeous colors, and I'm super excited to make this for my family. Congrats to Jaden for producing her own ebook at such a great price. Just buy it! How can you go wrong?
I received this just a few hours ago. I am familiar with almost all of the dishes, and I have cooked a few of them before. I should mention that, having been raised in Hawai'i and having generations of foodies (including a Japanese master chef that loved discovering and cooking, period), I am a bit picky (DH says that I vastly understated with that). This is good stuff here, folks. The wonton instructions alone are worth the purchase price. Like Jaden's son, I, too, began mixing and assembling wonton at a very early age, allowing me to contribute to cooking the meal. Your kids will love it, too, especially if you all do it together.Ihave never made General Tso's chicken, but lusted after the recipe, nor have I ever made egg foo young, oddly enough.Buy this book. The recipes are good, the ingredients should be fairly easy to find, and the techniques are perfect.
Fantastic book. Makes cooking asian food so easy! I immediately made the shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour pork (which I modified to chicken) and General Tso's chicken. All came out amazingly well so I made the wonton soup. Wontons are shockingly easy! My family liked all of the recipes and I was amazed how easy it was to cook asian food - but healthier! No more greasy take out chinese. I then purchased Steamy Kitchen which was another great book and then bought a wok. I've never attempted chinese food because it always seemed so complicated and too many specialty ingredients but this book made it so much easier. If you ever wanted to attempt chinese and skip the greasy take-out this is definitely the way to go.
I was so pleased to see recipes for egg flower soup and hot and sour soup. I've always loved these soups whenever I would go out and wanted to make it at home. I like to know what's in my food and also to make them healthier. Soup is so comforting! I love the cooking tips Jaden includes, such as the names for black bean sauces. Plus, I love that she cooks her rice in the microwave. I secretly do that too. ;-)
This is a nice cookbook. It was suprised that it didn't have verymuch many recipes. Ithe isn't your traditional Chinese take out recipes. Iit doesn't have anything with the traditional breaded recipes hence the name Healthy Chinese. The recipes that it does have are great.
