I am very disappointed with the quality of this coloring book. I was getting this for my mom and my sister to share because they are obsessed with the new coloring craze and they both love birds. The quality of this book is terrible. I can't believe I even paid for it. I'm almost positive I could go to any craft store (or Dollar Store) and find a better quality book. The only positive of the book is the pages are very high quality (i.e. if you like to use gel pen or fine tip markers) and the ink won't bleed thru. But other than that, there is nothing good about this book. There are a total of 25 pages worth of coloring material (all of the coloring page designs have a blank back except for the first coloring page that has a line for you to put your name on). There are hundreds of different species of birds and the book only focuses on a couple breeds (i.e. tons of owls and humming birds). As far as design goes, the pictures look very pixelated. It looks as though the drawings were originally much smaller then expanded just to fit the size of the page. (Similar to finding a small picture on the internet, copying and pasting it too Word/PowerPoint, expanding the photo then realizing the bigger picture is fuzzy. Sorry if that is a little confusing, it's the only way I knew how to explain it.) There is also no consistency between the design of the birds. It's very visible that there were at least five different designers to create the drawings found in the book. Now I know what you're probably thinking, "isn't having different designs a good thing?" Not so in this book. Some of the designs look like they were designed for little kids while others look professional. Some are easy while others have such intricate designs even my sister who has good eyesight can't do. Also, the title "BIRDS" really does mean just birds. The designs are only of birds. No flowers or scenery, just birds, despite what the cover may have you believe.I really hate to write bad reviews for products but this was worth it. The quality of coloring books that you can find at your local craft store are much better than this and a better price as well! Don't waste your hard earned money on this!

The cover is very deceptive. You think the book is full of scenes similar to the cover, but instead, there are single cartoon-like birds (pelicans, toucans, storks, parrots) on a blank white page. There are 3 pages out of 25 that I MIGHT enjoy coloring. Most pictures are highly pixilated, and they look like they have been taken from a clip art and blown up bigger. Had I'd been able to see a couple of the coloring pages, I would not have bought it. I would not consider giving this to an adult to color.

The book is fun to work with, but when they put it together, the pages were installed backward. Instead of turning the page and seeing the bird on the right, they are on the left... not to big a deal. Also their use of black can overwhelm the design. Still fun.

Didn't like the pictures, they are goofy.

Each page has one bird - seems very simple - more like for a child.

Did not care for the art work.

Very dissapointed in both of the books I have just received mainly the bird one if I had been able to veiw the inside I would not have bought this. The printing is blurred and in other places the design is crowded

Susan Jacoby's THE GREAT AGNOSTIC reveals Robert Ingersoll as a freethinker who saw no difference between an agnostic, as he was dubbed, and an atheist. He claimed that no one knows whether or not God exists; believers believe it, and nonbelievers don't. He didn't believe it. The term "agnostic," which dates back to 1869, may have been coined (probably by Thomas Henry Huxley) to separate honorable American nonbelievers from the pejorative connotation of the much older term, atheist. In any case, "agnostic" in Ingersoll's time didn't seem to carry the noncommittal connotation it does today, because Ingersoll was quite vocally and cheerfully a nonbeliever.Jacoby's short, scholarly, hypnotically readable biography of Ingersoll recalls him as a happy man. He became famous as a 19th century American orator, and people flocked to hear him because his talks were so good humored and entertaining. Both believers and nonbelievers enjoyed his talks, and only believers who took the Bible literally (fundamentalists today) hated him.Ingersoll was not like many nonbelievers of his time, who subscribed to a "social Darwinist" theory that certain classes of people are superior to others. Ingersoll's father had been an abolitionist preacher, and Ingersoll championed human rights--including workers' rights, women's rights, and children's rights. He detested corporal punishment and dramatically spoke out against it. He was far ahead of his time.He was a happily married father of daughters who grew up without a religious education, but who learned to read the Bible as literature. He was well-read and proud to be an American. He revered Abraham Lincoln, and he resurrected Thomas Paine from obscurity. Among his friends were Henry Ward Beecher (a Christian preacher and the brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of UNCLE TOM'S CABIN) and Mark Twain.Jacoby has done a wonderful service to readers everywhere through her portrait of Ingersoll--whom I previously discovered in her 2004 bestseller, FREETHINKERS. Susan Jacoby sets out to -- and in her afterword advises "new" atheists to work tenaciously to -- restore Robert Ingersoll to his rightful place in American history. In two hundred pages, she makes a compelling case. Ingersoll was not only a champion of freethinkers, he widened the field for religious moderates and everyone who prefers a secular government and public sphere. And he lived an interesting life in interesting times.My only criticism of this story is that American freethought during the end of the 19th century seems very isolated. Jacoby has called this period the Golden Age of American freethought (in Freethinkers as well as here); it was also the golden age of British freethought, and the two traditions were in regular contact with each other. One example would be contraception, which Ingersoll advocated on the basis of women's right to control their own bodies. It wouldn't detract from Ingersoll at all to acknowledge that freethinkers advocating birth control had a long and important history on both sides of the Atlantic when Ingersoll took up the issue. Of course you can't do everything in 200 pages, but in her letter to the new atheists, the author calls out to readers of some contemporary British atheists such as Dawkins and Hitchens. Perhaps there would be less need to re-establish these ties across the water if we knew more about the ongoing transatlantic interactions between people like Thomas Paine, Richard Carlile, Frances Wright, R. The text is not terribly exciting, and it is unfortunate that the legal developments are not presented in a more coherent fashion. Also, the author's preaching on society's disempowerment of women is excessive to the point of imbalance. Black-and-white cartoons, photographs, and graphs don't add much to the text. I thoroughly enjoyed my reading of The Gospel in a Pluralist Society. I was excited to see such radical thinking in many places. He showed himself over and over again willing to step outside of the normal framework of Christian thinking to re-examine a topic. For example, he steps outside of the contextualization discussion to say that there is no Gospel that is not contextualized. He looks at traditional debates such as word vs. deed ministry and reason vs. revelation vs. experience to say that in each case, all sides are right and necessary. He does not limit himself to Christian subjects, either, taking time to attack the doubt claims of science and the possibility of a secular and pluralist society. I thoroughly appreciated his commentary on these subjects, as he always stepped outside the debate to redefine the terms and show how the entire reason for the debate was a misunderstanding of the Gospel. His focus on Christian community and on living it out fully in life is refreshing. I did take exception at one point in the book, however. In chapter 14, Newbigin expresses his views on inclusivist, exclusivist, and pluralist views of the Gospel. He draws a line between all three on pages 182-183 that I find to be both untenable and incorrect based on Scripture. I felt, similarly to what he did in the chapter on election, that he sidestepped many of the major points of the arguments too much, and in the end missed the point. I failed to recognize how he could maintain a seemingly contradictory position, and particularly in chapter 14 felt like I disagreed with him. I found myself writing “Is this true?” and “I disagree here” in the margins, and in the end I may have to be content being an exclusivist as he defines it. This book will be applicable to my ministry. I like the way that he redefines many core concepts, and I will work to incorporate his new definitions into my vocabulary. Additionally, his arguments in various debates will prove useful for future study and teaching.

Newbigin pastored for many years as a Bishop in the Church of South India while serving as a delegate to the World Council of Churches. After retiring from his pastoral/missions work in India, Newbigin assisted in planting an inner-city church in Birmingham, England. With that in mind, the reader should know that the views expressed in this book have not only been conceived mentally, but lived practically. *The Gospel in a Pluralistic Society's* major strength is its thoroughgoing evaluation of post-modern pluralism. Newbigin exposes its weaknesses, inconsistencies, and methodological failures. On the positive side, Newbigin gives an excellent defense of the doctrine of election, the Gospel and its power to change, and the ministry of the church in the world. Unlike some books on tattooing, the images do not emphasize the salacious. While the text is not academic in tone, Gilbert supports his research with an extensive reference citation list and bibliography. The book is good, wordy and lengthy with some decent photos but its not a great book on the chronology of tattoo history.. its just.. stuff from the tattoo world. :/ It was shipped in a big box without protection so I got the book all dog earred before I even saw it.

As a sociologist with strong anthropological interests turned tattoo apprentice, this is exactly the book I was looking for! Much of the tattoo world only goes back a century for its history, then alludes to ancient cultures. Just by flipping through this book upon arrival I can see that this is not the case with this book.If there was ever a college class on the history of tattoos, this should be one of the required texts. The only thing that could make this better is if the book was actually divided into a series focusing on each area/timeframe and included more information. *hint hint*

Overall, the historical review is above average to excellent. However, the writing is exceedingly dry and I had some difficulty reading this for more than 15-30 minutes at a time without nodding off. Still, it is the most comprehensive single source that I'm aware of that covers this subject matter. I'm planning on picking up a second copy as a gift for my artist.

My boyfriend recently got his first two tattoos and is hooked. He is a history buff as well so I got him this book as a little gift and he LOVES it. Interesting if you are interested in history and or tattoos. Would be a great "coffee table book" for a tattoo parlor!

You know, I guess I was just looking for a little more current history. Most of what you'll find in this book deals with ancient tribal and oriental histories. It's kind of like that college history class we all took dealing with ancient civilizations. Tough to find relationships to today's world (for me at least). Not a knock on the book itself, it is what it is, just my $.02.

This book has great illustrations but it’s more of a history book with good pics.

I got this as a gift for my cousin and he loved it. Very nice and informative book.

The book was a total disappointment. The information and photos in the book are cut and pasted from other books on native Indian basketry. The techniques discussed were for general coiling- not pine needle basket coiling. There were no viable projects in the book. I tried to sell the new book at a book resale shop. It was the only book that was rejected. It was put in the “free books”. What a waste of my hard earned money.

All black and white, no real directions on weaving . Very few good photos of baskets

I really appreciated the variety and clarity of the photographs. It triggered so many possibilities and very I formative.

I was expecting a color book with photos and instructions. what i got was a soft cover book in black and white! not happy!
