I thoroughly enjoyed my reading of The Gospel in a Pluralist Society. I was excited to see such radical thinking in many places. He showed himself over and over again willing to step outside of the normal framework of Christian thinking to re-examine a topic. For example, he steps outside of the contextualization discussion to say that there is no Gospel that is not contextualized. He looks at traditional debates such as word vs. deed ministry and reason vs. revelation vs. experience to say that in each case, all sides are right and necessary. He does not limit himself to Christian subjects, either, taking time to attack the doubt claims of science and the possibility of a secular and pluralist society. I thoroughly appreciated his commentary on these subjects, as he always stepped outside the debate to redefine the terms and show how the entire reason for the debate was a misunderstanding of the Gospel. His focus on Christian community and on living it out fully in life is refreshing. I did take exception at one point in the book, however. In chapter 14, Newbigin expresses his views on inclusivist, exclusivist, and pluralist views of the Gospel. He draws a line between all three on pages 182-183 that I find to be both untenable and incorrect based on Scripture. I felt, similarly to what he did in the chapter on election, that he sidestepped many of the major points of the arguments too much, and in the end missed the point. I failed to recognize how he could maintain a seemingly contradictory position, and particularly in chapter 14 felt like I disagreed with him. I found myself writing “Is this true?” and “I disagree here” in the margins, and in the end I may have to be content being an exclusivist as he defines it. This book will be applicable to my ministry. I like the way that he redefines many core concepts, and I will work to incorporate his new definitions into my vocabulary. Additionally, his arguments in various debates will prove useful for future study and teaching.

Wow! Where do I begin? Lesslie Newbigin was one the leading missiologists of our time. Newbigin pastored for many years as a Bishop in the Church of South India while serving as a delegate to the World Council of Churches. After retiring from his pastoral/missions work in India, Newbigin assisted in planting an inner-city church in Birmingham, England. With that in mind, the reader should know that the views expressed in this book have not only been conceived mentally, but lived practically. *The Gospel in a Pluralistic Society's* major strength is its thoroughgoing evaluation of post-modern pluralism. Newbigin exposes its weaknesses, inconsistencies, and methodological failures. On the positive side, Newbigin gives an excellent defense of the doctrine of election, the Gospel and its power to change, and the ministry of the church in the world. My favorite quote:"The cross of Jesus is the place where all human beings without exception are exposed as enemies of God, and the place where all human beings without exception are accepted as beloved of God, objects of his forgiving grace" (pg. 86).However, I do have two disagreements with Newbigin: I grow weary of the pitting of God's story/truth as narrative against doctrine/propositional theology (pg. 12). The Apostle Paul did both, he told the story of salvation from Abraham through Israel to Jesus and taught doctrinal truths that should be accepted and believed by every Christian. Second, Newbigin's embrace of Karl Rahner's anonymous Christian idea I found rather curious. To think that a sincerely seeking Hindu is really an anonymous Christian is actually insulting to the Hindu and still does not adequately explain how God judges those who have never heard the Gospel.*The Gospel in a Pluralist Society* was ground breaking when written in 1989 at a time when the West was accepting the presuppositions of the post-modern worldview and the book still maintains its relevance as our society fully embraces the mindset of a supposedly tolerant, pluralistic, non-judging culture.

Unlike some books on tattooing, the images do not emphasize the salacious. While the text is not academic in tone, Gilbert supports his research with an extensive reference citation list and bibliography. The book is good, wordy and lengthy with some decent photos but its not a great book on the chronology of tattoo history.. its just.. stuff from the tattoo world. :/ It was shipped in a big box without protection so I got the book all dog earred before I even saw it.

As a sociologist with strong anthropological interests turned tattoo apprentice, this is exactly the book I was looking for! Much of the tattoo world only goes back a century for its history, then alludes to ancient cultures. Just by flipping through this book upon arrival I can see that this is not the case with this book.If there was ever a college class on the history of tattoos, this should be one of the required texts. The only thing that could make this better is if the book was actually divided into a series focusing on each area/timeframe and included more information. *hint hint*

Overall, the historical review is above average to excellent. However, the writing is exceedingly dry and I had some difficulty reading this for more than 15-30 minutes at a time without nodding off. Still, it is the most comprehensive single source that I'm aware of that covers this subject matter. I'm planning on picking up a second copy as a gift for my artist.

My boyfriend recently got his first two tattoos and is hooked. He is a history buff as well so I got him this book as a little gift and he LOVES it. Interesting if you are interested in history and or tattoos. Would be a great "coffee table book" for a tattoo parlor!

You know, I guess I was just looking for a little more current history. Most of what you'll find in this book deals with ancient tribal and oriental histories. It's kind of like that college history class we all took dealing with ancient civilizations. Tough to find relationships to today's world (for me at least). Not a knock on the book itself, it is what it is, just my $.02.

This book has great illustrations but it’s more of a history book with good pics.

The book was a total disappointment. The information and photos in the book are cut and pasted from other books on native Indian basketry. The techniques discussed were for general coiling- not pine needle basket coiling. There were no viable projects in the book. I tried to sell the new book at a book resale shop. It was the only book that was rejected. It was put in the “free books”. What a waste of my hard earned money.

All black and white, no real directions on weaving . Very few good photos of baskets

I really appreciated the variety and clarity of the photographs. It triggered so many possibilities and very I formative.

I was expecting a color book with photos and instructions. what i got was a soft cover book in black and white! not happy!

Great book. The author breaks down the material very simple. If your a complete novice it will help you. I have 10+ years on repairing computers, first time going after a cert. I have my college degree. But needed to get this cert along with others to prove to other potential employers I know my stuff.I purchased this book on 5/18/16 and used the software to test myself to see where I needed to focus on. Then after the practice exam I scheduled the 220-901 exam in 2 weeks. 6-11-16 Week 1 study 2 chapters every evening and did the quizzes. At the end of week 1, i did the practice exam and saw an improvement in score. Repeat for 2nd week and score a little higher. Went in and passed 220-901 exam, minimum score is 675/900 I scored 800.Repeated the same process with 220-902 exam. 6-24-16 Minimum score to pass was 700/900 and my score was 757. Knocked this out in 1 month time. Keep in mind I don't have kids, wife, gf or other distractions to hold me back. Just saying what worked for me.

I passed the second exam with this book yesterday and am happily certified.I would recommend using this book if you are looking for a more "straight to the point" study guide and already have a fair knowledge of the topics. However, I recommend researching these individual exams on the CompTIA website for more information. The CompTIA website is awesome and will tell you what topics are covered in each exam, it helps you get an idea of where you stand after you have read through the book. Also, use the bonus questions that are located online. The CD that came with my book had software to login to the practice questions, but the software failed to login when I would attempt to do so. Then, I had to go online for the new version of the login software to view the practice questions (Heads up). Finally, I just followed the directions instructor Prowse suggest in these reviews and in his book.

Mr. Prowse is witty, at times funny and really knows what he's talking about from his years of experience. His books were recommended to me by my A+ Certification instructor. Use this book and the Professor Messer videos on Youtube and you'll be more than ready for your A+ Certification exam.

Excellent book. Dry, but it has the answers to all the questions you could have for the A+ exam. Just get it. Personally, I glossed over all the stuff I was very familiar with and studied the more specific things where I was lacking. It has everything you need to pass! I don't have any other books to compare this to, but I didn't need them as this was plenty thorough for the A+ exam.

If you are studying for this exam, please understand that the exam objectives are not separated by the book itself, and so as you study for each exam you need to pick and chose the relevant sections of the book..it's kind of a pain unless you want to take both exams on the same day or study ofr both at the same time, which I do not advise...you should concentrate on ONE at a time to maximize your chances of passing.

This book was fantastic for exactly what it says. Cramming. The rip out sheets were the best portion for some basic memorization. I have to credit it at least a bit for helping me pass the 901 and 902 on the same day 2 weeks after I started studying. GOing to buy the exam cram for Network+ and Security+ when I go for those.

Great book. Now, If I can just pass the exams! I did have the 701 and 702 books but never took the exam. This "Cram" book is great. Don't let the title fool you. It might be a "cram" book but it is "full" of material that I feel will help you pass your A+ exams. Good luck. This book is worth the price and Amazon made it even more affordable.

I'm using this in conjunction with tutorial videos, to increase the odds of passing the exam. I like the way the book is broken down into sections, and how easy it is to understand. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to increase their knowledge.

The book is well- written. Kept my attention and was an overall great read!

I like the characters, plot, description of he boats the areas. He keeps the plot going and I love the series.

These were just a lot of fun on cold wintry nights. Read all five in a row. Had a place in Key West for 30 years so I just drooled every time they went out on the boats and ate fresh caught seafood. I've played tennis for over 35 years, had lesson after lesson, went to tennis camps and clinics and still there was something missing in my game that I could not get in touch with, until The Inner Game of Tennis came along.Simply put, Timothy Gallwey writes that we should trust of bodies to do what they already know how to do, without all the judgement, self-coaching and self-criticism that so many players, myself included do. I used to puzzle over why my a certain stroke was so effortlessly effective one day and then just plain terrible in the next. My body would feel a lack of confidence, for example, a kind of forehand or volley or serve anxiety. The problem was that I never fully truly trusted my body to do what it already knew how to do. And once I did, my game changed.I now play relaxed and confident, whether my opponent is better than me or not. And when errors occur, I notice them and let go, something I never used to do before.Many thanks to Mr. Gallwey for giving me my a new and most powerful tool for tennis and beyond!!

My game of golf sucks. When I mentioned to my wife that my problem is not my swing or clubs but in my head, she reminded me about "The Inner Game of Tennis," which I had not read in over 20 years. It is not a tennis book; it's about every endeavor in life. A buddy of mine who taught golf and racket sports at colleges for 35 years said that "The Inner Game of Golf" makes frequent references to the Tennis version. This is not a book where you take notes -- it infiltrates your mind and body. I'm savoring it slowly to let each "lesson" sink in. Highest praise!

I took up tennis 2 years ago at age 65. Because most of the people I play with have played for decades I figured the only way to catch up is be a practice nut and a sponge for information - videos books, lessons from pros etc. But I had not given much thought to what goes in inside the head. Like many my mind was polluted with self criticism, negative thought, and an inability to focus all the time.Fortunately I purchased a copy of this book and indeed it was a real eye opener in fact, it was almost like the author was speaking directly to me. The simple way he describes how the inner mind works for and against you was logical and it helped me understand what I was dealing with for the first time. The exercises are quite simple and the benefit came immediately. After spending about a half hour with the mental exercise I went out to the court and hit balls with the ball machine. Set on 2 line medium speed I usually have about 15 - 20 balls on the net side after hitting the full bin of 150. I hit the balls as usual but this time I was totally focuses and "in the now" the only thing I was aware of was the ball was getting great top spin and most of the balls where hitting in. When I finished I looked down at the net and there were only 3 balls that hadn't made it over. I was shocked "hey this stuff really does work!" I thought. I've only played in one match since then but I can see the results already.It is truly amazing what the mind can accomplish when you get in the zone and tune out all the distractions. This is a great book and has benefit for anyone who wants to improve at tennis or any other sport IMO.

This fantastic book cured me from stagefright. I suffered from stagefright that was so severe that I would instantly start sweating, shaking and panicking to the point that I could not remember, let alone play, a single note of my piano music. Then my piano teacher suggested I buy and read this book. I learned about the Ego driven Self One and how it wants to run everything and the sensitive, creative Self Two who really knows what is going on and can produce wonderful creations, achievements and performances if Self One will get of the way. My piano teacher and I embarked on a variety of techniques for me to get Self One off my back and occupied somewhere else. The method worked beautifully. I often think of Gallwey's suggestion about watching the tennis ball come at you and observing the patterns on it, the texture, etc. I would call this getting into the observer mode. Another helpful tip from this book was the idea of approaching my playing from a place of awareness, not judgment. I am a musician, not a tennis player. As soon as I just become aware of my technique in playing a piece of music, it takes the judgment off of it and I can fix the problem easier. In fact, the awareness often allows for the problem to fix itself. Much of the time, I need do nothing. I also have "The Inner Game of Music," and got a lot out of that as well, but this book was available to me in 1980 when I was dealing with my stagefright. I am forever grateful to Mr. Gallwey for sharing this wisdom with me. As a result of reading this book and doing the work within its pages, I was able to go on and have a successful career as a performing artist. [...]

If you are a tennis player you NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! It has helped my tennis game so much, and I quote it about every time I teach a private or group lesson. It is awesome for building confidence, overcoming the nerves of competition, and teaches you to learn to play the game of tennis in a positive way and not get down on yourself for the mistakes. LOVE IT.

So often books about excelling, especially at sports like tennis and golf that operate on fine margins of error, offer tropes about the importance of concentrating and focus yet never offer the drills necessary to achieve them, or a overarching concept to a specific approach.This book refreshingly didn't disappoint. Not only did it encourage a holistic and healthy approach to competition, it brought employable strategies for a player to examine and work with. I digested this book quickly multiple times, and have eagerly been employing its mentality. Before I would fret and worry, letting the stress of the game overwhelm me, but now I look forward to playing without the fear and insecurity.
